The central theme of this profile of Sam Hammington is wide cheeks and a broad jaw. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.
Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw
It is an outline that leaves some width in the cheeks and lower jaw. It is filmed from a distance, so the entire face line is visible first.
When looking at horizontal width, you can divide it into the width of the cheekbone height and the width of the lower jaw height. Whether the wide side of the cheek extends to the lower face or suddenly decreases at the chin is a criterion for distinguishing the shape of the outline.
Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows
The forehead and hairline are exposed under the short, trimmed hair.
In compositions where the forehead is exposed, you can see a wide area extending from the hairline to the eyebrows. Comparing the direction of the upper curve and the lower eyebrows makes it clear what lines surround the upper part of the face.
Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

When looking to the side, the eyes appear narrow. Due to the distance, details of the eyelids are not clear.
What can be seen in this photo is the large direction and arrangement around the eyes. Rather than zooming in to determine the small double eyelid line or the exact angle of the corner of the eye, it is better to look at the horizontal area that the eyes occupy within the face.
Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes
Dark eyebrows lie horizontally over the eyes, creating an upper border.
Eyebrows can be examined by distinguishing between the density of color and the curve of the line. By comparing the inner thickness and the direction of the outer edge with the eyelid line, you can see how the outline surrounding the eye is formed.
Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth
The protrusion of the bridge of the nose and the round tip of the nose is visible from an angle close to the side.
From this angle, both the length of the bridge of the nose and the degree to which the tip of the nose is brought forward are visible. The line where the bright side meets the shadow is also affected by lighting, so you can see the boundary between light and dark and the actual outer outline.
Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face
Lips and Mouth Corners
The horizontal lines of the closed mouth are visible, but the detailed curves of the lips are blurred in the photo.
Jawline and Chin
The wide lower jaw leads to a round chin tip. The border of the neck and chin partially overlaps.
In a closed mouth, the curve in the center of the upper lip and the curved surface of the lower lip can be examined separately. Comparing the horizontal width of the lips to the width of the tip of the chin reveals how small lines and large outlines are placed within the lower face.
Step 7: Overall Balance — Wide Cheeks and a Broad Jaw
The broad cheeks and lower jaw form the outer frame of Sam Hammington's face. If you look at the eyes and mouth together with horizontal lines inside them, you can see the width occupied by the large outer and central features, respectively.
