The central theme of this profile of Ha Ji-won is defined eyelids and a slender lower face. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.
Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw
The line coming down from the cheekbones to the chin is clearly oval shaped. The tip of the chin comes together narrowly, emphasizing the vertical line in the center of the face.
Even within the large oval frame, the width of the cheekbones and chin are not the same. If you follow the speed from the widest part of the face down to the tip of the chin, you can see changes in the outline that are not revealed by length alone.
Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows
The forehead is revealed between the thin bangs. The parting on both sides surrounds the center of the forehead like a frame.
You should look at the shape of the exposed part of the forehead and the hair on both sides. Since the parting and bangs are the lines that divide the upper margin, there is no need to immediately interpret the asymmetry seen in the photo as asymmetry of the forehead itself.
Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

The eyes are horizontally long and the curve of the upper eyelid is clear. The corners of the eyes become thinner and extend outwards.
The shape of the eye can be better revealed by dividing it into the horizontal length and vertical opening. The curve of the upper eyelid, the lower border, and the area that tapers to the corner of the eye combine to form a single outline.
Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes
The eyebrows are dark and long, forming a low arch on the outside. The eyebrows and eye lines are placed at close intervals.
The low eyebrows can be compared side by side with the horizontal line of the eyes. Looking at where the eyebrows start and end and how thin they become at the ends reveals the relationship between the two overlapping lines at the top.
Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth
The straight bridge of the nose and the round, small tip of the nose are visible. The nose creates the vertical ratio of the middle of the face.
The tip of the nose and both nostrils are areas where small curved surfaces are gathered. If you look at the widening border on both sides instead of just looking at the bright side in the center, you can see the width that changes from the bridge of the nose to the bottom of the nose.
Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face
Lips and Mouth Corners
The center of the upper lip is clear, and the lower lip is slightly thicker. A small smile leaves her closed mouth.
Jawline and Chin
Both jaw lines come together in a relatively clear diagonal line. The tip of the chin is small, but it is not made up of only sharp straight lines.
When the mouth opens or the corners of the mouth rise, the width of the mouth and the space left up to the chin also change. If you look at the raised position of the cheeks and the tip of the chin together rather than just the lips, you can see the process by which a smile changes the ratio of the lower jaw.
Step 7: Overall Balance — Defined Eyelids and a Slender Lower Face
In Ha Ji-won's face, there is a distinction between the area around the cheekbones and the line that converges to the lower jaw. If you look at the longitudinal direction of the eyes and the vertical direction of the nose, you can see that there are clear lines of facial features even within soft curves.
Ha Ji-won's Facial Features at a Glance
- Face shape: The line from the cheekbones to the chin is clearly oval shaped.
- Eyes: The eyes are horizontally long and the curve of the upper eyelid is clear.
- Chin: Both jaw lines come together in a relatively clear diagonal line.
Together, these features show how the face's outer contour relates to the eyes and lower face. Looking at the connections between lines and surfaces helps explain the overall balance visible in this photograph.
