The central theme of this profile of Choi Bool-am is an open forehead and a rounded lower face. We examine the visible contours and placement of the features in seven steps, starting with the overall face shape and ending with how its lines and surfaces fit together.
Step 1: Face Shape — The Outline of the Cheeks and Jaw
It is a long outline that connects the width of the cheeks and the wide chin. A round surface remains on both sides of the face.
When looking at horizontal width, you can divide it into the width of the cheekbone height and the width of the lower jaw height. Whether the wide side of the cheek extends to the lower face or suddenly decreases at the chin is a criterion for distinguishing the shape of the outline.
Step 2: Forehead — Between the Hairline and Brows
Tuck your hair back to open your forehead wide and expose your hairline.
In compositions where the forehead is exposed, you can see a wide area extending from the hairline to the eyebrows. Comparing the direction of the upper curve and the lower eyebrows makes it clear what lines surround the upper part of the face.
Step 3: Eyes — Eyelid Curves and Horizontal Length

Inside the glasses, the eyes appear horizontally longer. Because this is a distant photo, the detailed lines of the eyelids are blurry.
The circles or straight lines on the glasses frame overlap the actual outline of the eyes. You can examine the horizontal direction of the eye by following only the exposed eyelids and outer corners of the eyes, excluding the frames, but it is difficult to measure the size beyond the lens in precise proportions.
Step 4: Eyebrows — The Lines Above the Eyes
The eyebrows lie low over the eyes, and the frames of the glasses partially cover them.
The visible eyebrow pieces were not drawn to form the full eyebrow shape. If you look at the direction of the confirmed line and the gap between the eyes, you can distinguish between the border of hair or props and the actual eyebrows.
Step 5: Nose — The Central Line and Depth
The bridge of the nose is long and there is a round volume at the tip of the nose.
The long bridge of the nose creates a central line that extends from between the eyes to above the lips. Comparing the narrow width of the bridge of the nose and the rounded surface of the tip, the parts that appear as lines and the parts that appear as surfaces can be distinguished within the same nose.
Step 6: Mouth and Chin — Expression and the Lower Face
Lips and Mouth Corners
Horizontal lines of the closed mouth are visible, and facial expression lines remain around the mouth.
Jawline and Chin
The lower jaw is wide and the tip of the chin is rounded and connected to the cheek.
In a closed mouth, the curve in the center of the upper lip and the curved surface of the lower lip can be examined separately. Comparing the horizontal width of the lips to the width of the tip of the chin reveals how small lines and large outlines are placed within the lower face.
Step 7: Overall Balance — An Open Forehead and a Rounded Lower Face
Choi Bool-am's photo shows the large curves of the cheeks and chin, as well as the expressive lines around the eyes. Because of the shooting distance, the wide outline is clearly visible rather than the small border, so you can focus on the change in the area from the forehead to the lower face.
Choi Bool-am's Facial Features at a Glance
- Face shape: A long outline with wide cheeks and a wide chin.
- Eyes: Inside the glasses, the eyes appear horizontally long.
- Chin: The lower jaw is wide and the tip of the chin is rounded and connected to the cheek.
Together, these features show how the face's outer contour relates to the eyes and lower face. Looking at the connections between lines and surfaces helps explain the overall balance visible in this photograph.
